Ukraine is currently facing unprecedented challenges as the ongoing war with Russia has drastically altered its landscape and infrastructure. Daily missile strikes, artillery shelling, and military activities have left widespread destruction across the country. Key areas, including Black Sea and Danube ports, industrial hubs, hospitals and residential districts, agricultural regions, energy and vital infrastructure like power stations, roads and bridges, have been hit hard, disrupting both local livelihoods and global supply chains.
The strikes on critical grain terminals and storage facilities in southern Ukraine, which followed Russia's exit from the "grain deal," have had far-reaching consequences. These attacks not only disrupt Ukraine's agricultural exports but also threaten global food security, with ripple effects being felt in vulnerable regions that depend on Ukrainian grain. Damage to grain terminals, oil depots, and infrastructure has hampered Ukraine's ability to export food products, driving up global grain prices and pushing vulnerable countries closer to a hunger crisis. Additionally, the destruction of the Kakhovska HPP dam and massive hostilities in the south of the country led to an unprecedented reduction in the production of agricultural products, primarily vegetables and rapeseed, the greater part of which was exported to European and world markets.
Recently, Russian forces launched multiple aerial bomb strikes on Kharkiv, causing significant damage to buildings and infrastructure. In the Kyiv district, a nine-story residential building was hit, severely damaging the structure. In the Nemyshlianskyi district, a bomb impacted a bread factory, causing destruction to its facilities. Similarly, in the Saltivskyi district, bombs landed near residential areas and a playground, damaging nearby buildings. These strikes have contributed to the ongoing damage to Ukraine’s urban infrastructure, highlighting the widespread impact of the conflict on civilian structures and essential services. Beyond the destruction of buildings, the lives of civilians are being shattered, as they grapple with the loss of homes, livelihoods, and safety amid the relentless attacks.
In the face of this devastation, SuperVision Earth is playing a significant role by using satellite imagery and artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor and assess these changes in real time. The technology enables us to map the damage across Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, offering detailed insights into how roads, ports, agricultural lands, and residential areas are being affected.
Through high-resolution satellite imagery, SuperVision Earth tracks the extent of destruction caused by missile strikes and artillery fire. For instance, we can identify damaged infrastructure like ports in Odessa and Mykolaiv regions, where key grain storage facilities are being attacked on a regular base, and capture images of destroyed energy generating and transporting objects in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Poltava and many other regions. Demolition of Zmiyvs’ka TPP in March and Trypils’ka TPP in April 2024 are distinct instances of such events. ****AI algorithms are used to process this vast amount of data, automatically detecting changes on the ground, whether it's a new traces of shelling, damaged agricultural lands, or destroyed residential buildings.
Our technology also helps humanitarian organizations and local authorities prioritize relief efforts, focusing on the most affected areas. By continuously monitoring the evolving landscape, we provide timely and accurate information to aid in recovery planning, ensuring resources are deployed where they are needed most.
SuperVision Earth combines multi-level data analysis to deliver precise insights, from objects and land use changes to infrastructure deterioration, allowing us to keep track of key areas of interest. As the war continues to reshape Ukraine’s cities, industries and landscape, our satellite and AI-based monitoring tools will remain critical in helping the country rebuild while keeping the world informed about the extent of the damage.
With the situation in Ukraine evolving rapidly, SuperVision Earth remains committed to providing a clear, real-time view of the changes on the ground, supporting the country's recovery efforts, and helping ensure the world understands the true scale of the war impact.
